NYC Crystal Couture Collection | Fall 2014

I'm sure you've noticed NYC's latest fall collection, Crystal Couture, in posts and in store limited edition displays.  A compilation of glittering jellies, metallics, and autumnal vampies, the Crystal Couture Collection has something for everyone.

Here are four polishes from the collection.  Take a look.

Ruby Queen
over Barielle Berry Posh
Since this ruby jelly is very sheer, I chose to layer two coats (although one will do the trick) over Barielle Berry Posh.  I'm so happy that I did because look at how amazing the ruby, fuchsia, and pink glitter look floating over an opaque base!  Other swatches without underwear shows too much VNL for my liking so I was floored at how much I adored Ruby Queen layered over something.

NY Princess
over Barielle Soho at Night
Like Ruby Queen, I chose to layer the similarly sheer jelly of NY Princess over an opaque polish, in this case Barielle Soho at Night.  Again, perfection.  While the glitter in NY Princess is a monochromatic lavender and not a mix of shades, it's still so lovely floating in the rich royal jelly.  This was also two coats over the Barielle underwear but one coat would've been absolutely fine.

Fashion Queen
over Barielle Vintage Gown
My least favorite of the four is hands down Fashion Queen.  I'm just not a fan of yellow gold polishes whatsoever.  I tried Fashion Queen on it's own and after four coats, it was still blah and left shimmer everywhere.  A day later, I tried layering it over Barielle Vintage Gown, and wile the base color was a total mistake, I prefer how much more opaque Fashion Queen is.  The mink brown underwear gives the gold a bit more depth and a burnt look around the edges, but still not a fan of wearing Fashion Queen alone or layered.  This is two coats over Vintage Queen.

Rule the City
What an interesting polish we have here!  A pewter silver metallic foil, Rule the City is made more complex with a flurry of orange-red glitter pieces.  I wore this as a full manicure and thought it was perfectly seasonal, although the color just didn't jive well with my skin tone for some reason.  Also, despite being a foil, Rule the City is formulated like a glitter, making this an absolute pain to remove.  You're now forewarned.  Two coats here.

  3. Wow, Rule the City is lovely. The collection here in the UK doesn't have that shade, we have a royal blue one instead. Shame, I would have like that one! Great swatches and such a good price point

  5. I'm not a fan of glitter removal but others have better ways of getting around it. I just don't like acetone or any sort of remover on my skin any longer than it has to be.
