#ISupportEDA

On Instagram recently, I saw that @jessuhhhkuh was engaging the nail polish community to post light purple manicures on June 7 to bring awareness to eating disorders.  As someone who has watched friends suffer through eating disorders and body image struggles, I couldn't not take this opportunity to bring awareness to a truly devastating illness.

A new study has found that nearly half a million teenagers currently suffer from some sort of eating disorder and even more surprising, that the preponderance of those suffering were not necessarily female.  Those diagnosed with Bulimia Nervosa and Anorexia Nervosa (the clinical names for the two most familiar eating disorders) were also found to suffer from other serious emotional issues, including planning and/or attempting suicide.

As a participant in the beauty blogging world, I feel it my duty to help redefine stereotypical ideas about beauty and contribute to the forum that allows all people to feel beautiful in their own skin.  While eating disorders are symptoms of larger, underlying issues, the manifestation of this illness as something reflective of someone's appearance is something we in the beauty community must work to address.

  2. Gorgeous mani. Why can't we all just be happy with our bodies as they are? No one is perfect, even Hollywood stars are photoshopped.
