Sinful Colors Starry Night

I stumbled across this lone, misplaced Sinful in a seasonal display, and like any good nail polish enthusiast, was instantly intrigued by the fact that something holographic was being sold at Walgreens.  For $2, it was worth a try, and Starry Night made its way hom with me.

The good?  I'm digging the black jelly.  Squishily opaque in two coats, there's a nice understated edge to a non-creme black polish.  The bad?  The holographic glitter is way more glitter than holo.  While in the bottle, the galactic shifts are really quite something, on the nail they're somewhat of a dud, which you can see from my not-too-great macro below.  Also, and kinda weird, are the gold glitter shards (I guess that's what you call random triangles of gold pieces?) that scattered the polish.  Again, I recommend you take a gander at the polish line around my cuticle for an example of said shardness.  And the ugly?  The mess this jelly left in its wake.  Yeah, I know I said that the black jelly was great, but the awkward pooling and goopiness just stained my cuticles and I had a really hard time with the cleanup, as you will see.

Disappointing yes, but if you go weak at the knees for galaxy-like nails, Starry Night is a cheap feed to that fix.  And if anyone can explain the shard thing, please please let me know what that's all about.

  1. I have to try my bottle, but I think it looks nice and I don't think I've placed this in to my holosection.

  2. It's not the most powerful holo, more of a glitter. But it does have the rainbow kick.

  3. The gold shards might be kinda cool and different if there were more of them in the bottle instead of just a few random ones here and there. But like you said, still a nice way to get this look on the cheap! I *do* hate removing black polish though. It's always such a cuticle-clogging mess for me!

  4. Yup...black polish is a blessing and curse.

  5. You're right; this is a little bit of a mess! But the great news is, your nails themselves still look fabulous despite the polish weirdness. :D

  6. For just $2 I'd have snapped this up with a quickness too! Lots of promise in that bottle, even if it doesn't quite live up. The shards confuse me too--I think Chelsea's right, that more of them might make a little more sense.

  7. It's kind of like they threw the leftovers from the year into a bottle and shook.

  8. I can see how why you picked this up! I looks beautiful in the bottle! It's not bad on the nails, but doesn't have that wow factor...
