Urban Outfitters Blue Velvet and Silly Lily SpectraFlair Topcoat

Over the summer, I got a bee in my bonnet about finding the perfect holographic top coat.  I just couldn't seem to find a linear topper that didn't make the base color appear too silvery or cost an arm and a leg to boot.  I spent many a night trolling Etsy for an indie creation that might fit the bill.

From the promo pics, I thought new-to-me brand Silly Lilly's holographic top coat looked best and for $10 (I think?), figured it couldn't hurt to try.  I chose to layer one coat over Urban Outfitters Blue Velvet, a medium cobalt blue creme.

The two polishes together really look quite lovely, but in real life, I was frustrated at how if not applied evenly, the base color was somewhat effected.  You can sort of see that happening on my middle finger, where the holo is strongest but also the most silvery because I applied the thickest coat over that finger.  In the future, I will make sure to apply this holo top coat in one thin sweeping coat for the most desired finish.

Do you have a favorite holo topcoat?  Let me know in the comments!

  2. These are definitely gorgeous together! I always just water down one of my Halo Hues with acetone to use as a subtle holo topper though.

  3. What a beautiful combination! This is definitely one of the best holo tops I've seen. Still room for improvement, I think, but it's still absolutely gorgeous!

  4. Agreed. I'm not a frankener, but I don't know why it's so difficult to keep the base clear with linear holo topcoats like this. Probably the formulation of the actual spectraflair, but still, I wonder...
