Holo for the Hell of It with Essie Just For the Twill of It

Duochromes and holographic polishes are super en trend this season, and while for some of you those two finishes never go out of style, I'm personally coming around to embrace my inner-non creme loving self.  I figured why not go for overkill and combine both looks in a single mani.  Nothing novel, but worth a try.

I started with Essie For the Twill of It, an "oil slick" duochrome (as perfectly described by The Daily Varnish) flashing purple to blue in a semi-metallic grey/green base.  To be honest, if this Fall 2013 Essie wasn't grounded in the grey, I would never go for a shade like this; I'm really picky about the duochromes I like and more often than not, I just think they look cheap.  For the Twill of It, however, has a level of chicness that really drew me to it, even though, as seen from the bottle shot above, it looks like a lot of different colors for one polish.  The macro below was two or three easy coats.

And for the holo!  I went for my go-to scattered holographic topcoat, Savina Fairy Dust, which just always jazzes up any mani I throw it over.  In the Essie's case, Fairy Dust did just that, bringing another million levels of dimension to an already intricate color.  Think of this holo "after photo" as the nighttime look to For the Twill of It's more demure daytime look.

Marrying the two trends in this case worked to my eye and I'm quite intrigued by the scattered holo duochrome look in the grey/purple color shift.  I give myself an A+ for effort but an F for the name of this blogpost.  Yeah, the corniness even made me cringe.

But that aside, what do you ladies think?

  2. This is gorgeous! And I love the holo glitter version of this mani too--kinda reminds me of a fall version of Butter London Knackered, maybe? Either way, it's a stunning combo!

  7. I've recently become obsessed with scattered holographic duochromes, so I'm Fairy Dusting everything I can find.
