Twinsie Tuesday: Fictional Animal Print

So sorry for the late TT post!  Without going into much detail, I had a little bit of a health scare last night (thankfully, all is taken care of now) and I've only been able to sit down to post this now.

As I'm sure you all know by now after reading all my sister Twinsie posts, today's challenge was to create fictional animal print.  A number of us were confused by this concept, and to be honest, all I thought of initially were unicorns and random Dr. Seuss characters.  Inevitably, I realized whatever I thought the challenge should be, I could never get my nails to actually look like that.  So I worked backwards.  What could I do, I asked myself, and without missing a beat, I responded leopard.

So yeah, leopard is a real animal and certainly not fictional.  Instead, I thought of what a leopard I would like to have would look like, and a purple, shimmery coat of lavender spots instantly came to mind.  I can't imagine there are many purple leopards running around, hence, my fictional animal print.

Before you look, please forgive the middle and index nails; they took the brunt of my mangled nail nightmare this weekend and were only just looking semi normal when I swatched this.

Since leopard fur is soft, I thought using a purple suede would be a great base so I used two coats of Pure Ice Touch Me Softly to begin.  I dabbed a few spots of Essie Go Ginza and outlined that with Avon Violetta Matte (keeping with the suede theme) with a dotting tool.  I decided to add a tiny bit of sparkle so I layered Wet n Wild Hannah Pinktana over the final product, which gave a light holographic touch the mani.  To completely suede it out, I used Hard Candy matte top coat, which unfortunately killed much of the holograph shift on the mani.

I decided to get a tad artistic in how I would showcase the polishes used hence the super crafty photo technique that anyone with Picasa (i.e., me) can figure out.

In case you haven't already, please take a look at all the other fictional animal print from today!

  9. Amanda, these are totally brilliant! The leopard print came out really well, and I am so geeking out to see you rocking the dotting tools. Also, these purples work together beautifully, and I am *loving* how you chose your polishes to add softness and texture. Awesome, awesome job! ^_^
