SmittenPolish Ladybird

Good morning!

I'm really excited to be able to share with you all a new shade from SmittenPolish from the spring Speck-tacular Collection.  As I have yet to try the similar Illamasqua collection (which retails for nearly double the price), my review cannot include any sort of dupe test.  However, I can speak to Noelie's ability to really combine the new speckled trend with classic spring pastels.

Ladybird is warm pink jelly interspersed with multisized black hex glitter.  The jelly is a tad on the runny side, so I recommend first applying a thin 1 to 2 coats first to get the color on your nails, and then going back to dab on the specks of glitter.  There is no need to fish for the speckles with this polish but the color is light and milky and for those girls that like a little opacity to their polishes, should aim to get their base color visible first.

For my swatch below, I only did one thin coat of base and then dabbed the glitter 3 times across my nails.  This was not the most efficient way to get this polish to play nice so I strongly recommend you take my application advice above.

There's something very modern about the lightness of the base with the hardness of the glitter in Ladybird that I really like.  While I personally would have liked the pink to be on the cooler side (these warmer pinks tend to disappear on my skin), I can see this color flattering many girls -- particularly those with more of a tan.

On another note, I absolutely love how the glitters sit differently in each coat, giving the various black glitters either a more pigmented or milky color, depending in which coat they were applied.  That aspect gives the polish more interest and certainly more depth and really highlights the uniqueness of Ladybird from many other pink glitter polishes.

If you are interested in purchasing Ladybird or any other polish from the Speck-tacular Collection, retailed for $9 each, please visit Noelie's Etsy shop here.  I also recommend signing up for the SmittenPolish newsletter where Noelie regularly updates her customers with the latest restock information.  Noelie's customer service is also one of the best I have ever experienced; a current and regular customer from the Etsy shop, I highly recommend her as a merchant.

  11. Thanks, Amanda! I really need to start wearing my Nubar Black Polka Dot over a bunch more polishes, but there's something extra lovely about the way these speckled ones encase the glitter, all sammich-like. Ooh, Black Polka Dot sammich! Gotta write that down... ;)
