Last week dragged on for what felt like decades so I'm surprised I'm actually here to bring you ladies another Twinsie Tuesday post before I begin cashing in my Social Security checks.
Dramatics aside, today we have to post either stripes or dots. While I'm not much into stripes, I also had to take into consideration that I am Day Three into my teal week a la Elizabeth. While compiling my meager selection of teals, I saw that Revlon Chic and OPI I Have a Herring Problem were perfectly suited for each other: the former a dusty creme and the latter a shimmery creme. How cool, thought I, if I use the two together.
I shouldn't have thought so much.
While I am pleased with myself for using striping tape for the first time, the two teals are just too similar. So, instead of creating subtle matte-esque looking stripes in the OPI, it just looks like Thumblelina tracked a tiny little wagon over the wet cement of my nails. Even though I do like these two shades together, I don't think striping was the way to go.
This is two coats of Chic with a thicker coat of Herring Problem over the striping tape.
I felt the need to prove, however, that I did indeed utilize a nail art technique to fulfill one of my requirements of my teal week challenge so here' s a macro highlighting the lines. Although, I'm pretty enamored by the flakie-ness of the OPI shimmer. Absolutely stunning.
So there you have it, teal and stripes. I was inclined to use a matte top coat to finish the mani but felt that that might just completely make this look like one polish altogether and make the lines even less noticeable. But I guess we'll never know.
For more stripes and/or dots, make sure to check out my Twinsies' posts. And definitely check out Elizabeth's purple for the day!

LOL @ Thumblelina!! I love the close up shot.Very cute!
ReplyDeleteWow, that looks awesome!! I love how the two polishes make the stripes look raised! Great job!
ReplyDeleteAw I love this!!! So pretty, and I like how similar the two polishes are. Beautiful! :D
ReplyDeleteThanks! But I had to prove I didn't cop out ;)
ReplyDeleteThat looks so cool! Totally looked like a 3D effect!
ReplyDeleteYou most definitely didn't cop out--these look awesome, Amanda! Especially for your first striping tape mani too, I wouldn't have guessed! I actually really like how the stripes give it a bit of texture without a whole lot of contrast. And I'd never even noticed how teal-leaning Herring Problem could be. (love the macro shot too!)
ReplyDeleteYou did SO AWESOME for first striping tape mani! I love the two colors, I can see what you mean though.
ReplyDeleteI like it! Sometimes the subtle manis are my favorite because no one else knows how secretly awesome your nails are. :)
ReplyDeleteDying at your thumbalina reference. I actually think this looks really cool, especially close up!
ReplyDeleteI love this!
ReplyDeleteYay! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHa, thanks!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks, girly! Next time, I need to use two contrasting colors. This was more of a moment.
ReplyDeleteI was also pretty surprised at the teal-ness of Herring since when I wore it as a full mani last year I remember not liking how green it struck me. Now, I think it's awesome. Weird how tastes change so quickly.
ReplyDeleteUnexpectedly getting into the texture trend, I guess!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Jamie!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much!
ReplyDeleteThese look awesome! I literally laughed out loud at your Thumbalina reference!!
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful! Love this!
ReplyDeleteI swapped out my bottle of Herring Problem. )= Now I want it back.
ReplyDeleteThis color is lovely and I love the subtle stripe look!
I think this turned out great! And that macro is STUNNING!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks!
ReplyDeleteI'm sure it's still available to buy again :/
ReplyDelete<3
ReplyDeleteHa, thanks!
ReplyDeleteInteresting thought!
ReplyDeleteThis looks cool :)
ReplyDeleteThumbelina...nearly snorted Fanta orange soda out my nose. Really glad you included the macro shot too. Loved the concept!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
ReplyDeleteAh, careful with the soda! And thanks!
