Twinsie Tuesday: Canadian's Choice

In my week home from work, I got very ahead of my posting schedule.  In fact, I'm writing this about five days before today (the day you should be reading this, if I've scheduled my post correctly).  I always feel a bit odd posting so early since what I write may be passe by the time the post goes live, but this Twinsie Tuesday should be appropriate for at least the next few months.

Why? you might ask.  Well, because today's challenge was Canadian's Choice.  Apropos since today is American election day, right?

(To all my American ladies, GO VOTE!)

Basically, Canadian's Choice is where our Canuck Twinsies, Anne and Ash, divvied up the group and gave us each secret assignments.  I have no idea what Anne's girlies will be doing, but Ash's team, of which I am a member, must create a winter themed nail art manicure.  Ash told us that she especially requested me for her group because she could then force me to do nail art.  Harumph.

But I did not want to let Ash down.  I love winter and Ash and so I thought of a good way to incorporate my team leader and her cruel TT task in one manicure: use her own franken against her.  A few months back, I purchased one of Ash's stunning creations, a soft mint green creme saturated with iridescent flakies aptly named Winter Sky.  Perfect, right?

After three layers of that beautiful baby, I went to my go-to nail art guru, Jane at Nailside, and must have practiced a million and a half times on paper making a snowflake the way she instructed.  I bought stripers for the occasion and everything -- I was that committed.

Here's my result.

My normal spot for photographing swatches left a bit of a glare on my snowflake but you can clearly see the really pretty and delicate flakies in the mint that really look like fallen snow.

In the weak light in my bedroom I was able to capture a better picture of my little 'flake.  I created this using a Diamond Cosmetics nail art striper in Midnight Glitter and highlighted my lines with the Opal Glitter striper, which gave it an even more glittery look.

I must say that I'm not in love with my snowflake.  The ones I created on paper were far superior to what ended up on the nail but I guess I wasn't really prepared for exactly how small and curved a nail is.  Kudos to you ladies who create mini masterpieces on your fingers day in and day out.  For now, I hope I pleased Ash and will not have to do any more nail art for a very, very, very long time.

  5. Go, Amanda!! Beautiful, beautiful polish choice, and I love your little snowflake! Seriously, every time you get shanghaied into doing more nail art, I can see the improvement. And you're so right--just when I think I have something down okay in practice, it gets so much harder on that curvy nail. Total kudos for committment *and* result!

  9. I love how you put that: shanghaied into nail art. That's really how it feels, doesn't it? But thank you so much for the kudos and making me feel less crazy for the curvy nail issue.

  16. Pretty - like the snowflake - i can only dream of weather cool enough to produce 'em right now - we have had blasting heat far too long (longer than I ever can recall) into Nov now - it was 90 still yesterday - only hope that maybe we will have a really super long and cold winter once it gets here.
