OPI Red My Fortune Cookie

My loyal readers know that I am weak in the knees for a good red polish.  There's simply nothing more chic than a woman wearing the right shade of red polish on her fingertips.

So of course, it goes without saying that when my eye caught sight of a bright tomato red OPI while meandering around Ricky's, it had to be mine.  When I flipped over the bottle, I saw a name I didn't recognize, a rarity these days.  Red My Fortune Cookie hails from one of my favorite OPI collections of all time, Hong Kong Spring 2010.  Somehow I never stumbled across this one while ogling the other beauties in the collection.

Red my Fortune Cookie, as I said, is a bright tomato shade, with a semi-gloss finish. While it's not at all matte, there's somewhat of a rubber finish to this shade that was luckily picked up in my photo.  What I loved the most about this was that this is my first true red creme ever!  Normally, my reds are jellies or crellies, but never as thickly pigmented as this.  I wasn't thrilled with the application since the pro-wide brush did not want to cooperate with me and it irks me still looking at these photos how uneven the polish is around my cuticle line is.  So, please be kind and ignore any unsightly application.

This is three coats but was completely opaque in two.

Please note that this is an orange-based red, a departure from most of my blue-toned reds.   I tend to favor the bluer tones as they go best with my skin, but there is enough tomato-ness in this to prevent the color from pulling coral orange on me; the photo is completely color accurate.

So what do you think?  Have you heard of this color before?  Am I still living under an unpolished rock?  And more importantly, what are your favorite reds?

  2. I'm incredibly jealous of your polishing skills. I never do mine with coloured polish because it ends up looking like a child did it. I save my colours for the professionals. Do you have a blog post that gives tips for girls who struggle with painting their own nails?

  11. Although I am not a huge red polish kind of gal, I do have to admit there's nothing classier or sexier than a great red and this certainly one of them! It looks amazing with your skintone! My favorite reds are OPI Red Lights Ahead...Where? and Revlon Red.

  21. I have noticed that most red reds aren't truly cremes, but I was thinking that was just me :O)

  22. I have had this shade since it came out in the original collection - thinking it was the Hong Kong but might have been spring 2011. I am a huge fan of warm reds and cream is a formula that never goes out of favor with me - I purge my collection of many other formulas as things change over time - but a good cream stays put. This is up there in my fav tomato reds.
