Butter London Knackered over OPI I Don't Give a Rotterdam

Good morning, ladies.

Today I have a mani for you that literally caused me to stare at my hands nonstop for days.  I probably looked a bit deranged at work and driving might have been on the dangerous side, but when you see it below, I hope you'll agree it was worth the risk.

During the recent Coterie sale, I snagged three Butter London polishes and a matte top coat for $11.  I wanted to use Knackered as soon as possible but in talking to some of my Twinsies who also had the polish, was nervous it would show up thin and translucent on the nail, diminishing the gorgeous duochrome shimmer qualities so evident in the bottle.

Along came Chelsea, who briliantly suggested to layer Knackered over OPI I Don't Give a Rotterdam.  Since I had Rotterdam for months without trying it out, I thought it this was the perfect opportunity to try both these beauties out.

OPI I Don't Give a Rotterdam is simply fantastic.  I'm still hitting myself for not wearing this sooner.  A luscious blue-grey swimming with gold-tinted shimmer, the polish applies like butter.  In 3 coats, I was absolutely in love.

After wearing Rotterdam as a solo mani for a day or two, it was time to try out Chelsea's advice.  On went Knackered, a beautiful grey-blue and lilac duochrome scattered with holographic glitter that can be seen in and out of direct light.  I applied two coats of the Butter London to the OPI and behold, supreme amazingness:

While this mani is in fact comprised of eight coats of polish including base and toppers, it didn't look ridiculously thick on.  The polishes, it seems, were made to be worn together and I thank my lucky stars that I have Chelsea in my life to point these things out to me.  I was actually sad to take this combo off, but alas, so goes the life of a nail blogger!

Do you ladies have any suggestions for other winning polish combinations that I should try?

  3. I LOVE this! I tried layering Knackered over a dark purple base, but I think I need to layer it over a lighter base now. So pretty! I agree it goes on in thin thin coats.

  8. Purple sounds like it would look nice together, but perhaps a lighter one wouldn't compete with the pastelesque duochrome.

  10. I was surprised also, especially given the fact that the OPI is so heavily shimmered.

  15. Hmm, I just got Knackered in that sale also. I will need to remember that I should layer it! I wonder how Artful Dodger would be under it. It is quite lovely on!

As far as rad combos, I would have to think on that.

  17. Woah, that's gorgeous! I have the Barry M one that's meant to be similar, must try layering it. I recently got my first 3 BL polishes, have to say I'm in love with the formula, amazing! x

  18. Those two colors do look great together! I did a layered manicure once with Ulta's Scene Steel-er as a base with Essie Shine of the Times over it. I think it came out pretty cool. :)

  20. The formula with BL, I've found, is hit or miss, depending on the polish, but the colors are really stellar.
