Twinsie Tuesday: Spoiled Checkin' Into Rehab

Happy Tuesday!

I am really excited for two reasons this morning.

One, I am happy to announce another addition to our Twinsie family: the lovely and hilarious Elizabeth from Did My Nails.  Our first overseas contributor, Elizabeth lives in Hong Kong and has access to tons of different brands I know that I will be salivating over in the weeks to come.  Make sure you check our her inaugural Twinsie post!

Two, this polish!  For our challenge today, we had to swatch a glass fleck polish.  In my mind, Zoya is reigns supreme of all things glass fleck but I thought I'd expand my horizons just a bit and venture outside my gut inclination.  So while I was strolling around CVS this weekend, I stumbled upon the most luscious jelly that was swimming with red glass fleck flakies.  While a real cross between flakie and glass fleck, I knew that this was the polish I had to try for this week's Tuesday Twinsie post.  Enter Spoiled Checkin' Into Rehab.

A royal purple jelly, even without the flecks, this polish would have been a knockout.  The color is just so lush and juicy, even though it's on the darker side, it really pops off the nail.  However, if it weren't for the red flecks, I probably would not have given this polish a second look.  Sadly, as prominent as they appear in the bottle, the flecks just don't translate once on the nail.  The last two pictures give a good sense of how minimally the flecks are visible.

While I really like how Spoiled is branching out into various color and finish families, the mop of a brush is just impossible to work with.  Every nail required pretty intense cuticle cleanup since the brush just pushed the jelly to pool.  Because of how thick the brush was, it was also difficult get an even spread of the jelly and this mani was actually 3 or 4 coats.

Brush and lack of fleck aside, I am completely in love with this color and how well this jelly looks once dry.  Apparently, I'm not the only one since I received about three different comments from women around the office yesterday when I wore this: the executive secretary interrupted a conversation I was having to tell me she liked it; my boss gave the thumbs up across a conference table before a meeting; and the third comment came from the Chief of Staff as she was approving a document.  Go figure.

Make sure to check out some more glass flecked polishes by visiting my Twinsies' blogs below.

  3. Thank you so much for the amazing welcome, Amanda! I'll do my best not to let down the side. :D

Wow, the jelly finish on Checkin' Into Rehab is so squishably gorgeous. I never would have guessed you had problems with it. And even if they're not as dense, the red flecks really give it a nice, extra dimension. Not surprised at all you got so many compliments!

  4. I love how "inky" this looks!  I will def put up with Spoiled's annoying brushes for their polishes because they are usually really cool!  I also regard Zoya as the "glass fleck" standard :)

  5. I hate when a polish doesn't quite measure up to the bottle. But this is still very yummy looking!

  9. It was on the bottom of a shelf when I saw it, but I'm glad I bent down to take a second look. I'm surprised I haven't seen more swatches of this myself.

  10. I'm so happy to have you on board! And yes, squishably gorgeous it is! I wonder if it would've been as juicy had the flecks been more prominent.

  11. "Inky" -- perfect word for this! And I 100% agree with you about both Spoiled and Zoya: one needs to seriously fix the brushes because the colors are fantastic and the other needs to make more glass flecks!

  12. I often have bottle letdown but this was just a bait and switch. Expected one thing, got another, equally lovely outcome.

  13. Yup, there's something unique about this. I hope Spoiled keeps this up!

  14. Beautiful purple, I really like it. I like that the Spoiled line has something different for everyone and it's affordable. Plus, the names are funny, maybe even a tad ridiculous!

  15. I completely agree! Although I like the ridiculous names, only because they stand out. Better than all the European numbered polishes that just confuse me.

  16. Wow, this is really stunning. I love Wet-n-Wild, but their brushes can really kill me at times.

  17. They are seriously painful with this line :/

  26. Chief of staff? Do you work in politics?

    ReplyDelete
  27. I know, seems to be the common consensus.  I hope they improve soon!

    ReplyDelete
  28. You definitely should!  For $2, it's a good investment!

  29. I work closely with politicians but no, I work in non-profit and part of what we lobby for city funds and contracts to provide direct services to the poor of NYC.  I report to the Chief of Staff in my organization.

  30. I love Spoiled polishes! Such a bargain, too.

  31. I could not agree with you more on the Spoiled brushes! They are hands down the worst brushes I've ever used and they are soooo hard to work with. This really is a beautiful color though and that's great that you got so many compliments on it at work! :)

  32. In the end, it balances out because the end result it typically great. But seriously, where did these brushes even come from?

  33. Pretty!! Your pics reminds me of Girly Bits Cu Blue!

  34. I just Google image that polish and I see what you're talking about!

  35. That is gorgeous! Maybe I am glad I cannot get this brand around here...picked up 2 when I was last in FL and the brushes drive me insane, as well as the formula on the non-glitters.

  36. They really do stink but I can't stop getting them with colors like this. I'm really a slave to the shade.
