Twinsie Tuesday: Animal Inspired

Another Twinsie Tuesday, girlies.

Our challenge today was daunting: animal inspired.  I am not nail art inclined so I've been thinking about this challenge for weeks, trying to find a way to cheat my way through. Did I have a polish with an animal in the name?  Could I hold a stuffed animal while showing off a color?  My thought process was insanely convoluted trying to avoid actually doing this post properly.

In the end, I caved and figured I had to man up.  I looked up a few leopard print tutorials online, and finally found this video tutorial from Sarah at Chalkboard Nails which really broke the process down for me.  Since I didn't have any dotting tools (or any nail art tools in general), I was pleased that she also demonstrated how to do this with a bobby pin.

I decided that I didn't want to press my luck and just leopard printed an accent nail, jazzing it up using holographic polishes.  My base color is Color Club Love 'Em, Leave 'Em (thanks, Marisa!), an awesome nude scattered holo that applies like butter (see second picture for best capture of the holo).  For my white spots, I dabbed Orly Decades of Dysfunction randomly on my nail, and outlined the spots with a bobby pin using OPI DS Mystery, a delicious chocolatey brown polish infused with silvery shimmer that my bestie Nory sent my way.

Here is my first attempt at nail art!

I literally went from room to room in my house trying to best capture this mani.  Obsessed much?  Hells yeah.  I was so proud of myself that I wore a huge, dumb smile on my face for like an hour.  Dorky, I know, but small victories people, small victories.

I doubt this will be a new artform for me, but I'm certainly not as scared of using my nails as palettes as I was.  Yay me!  Okay, I'm done now.

Make sure to check out my Twinsies' animal inspired manis!

  4. Aw thanks, Cordia! I hoped that the holo would distract from me not doing the whole mani holo.
