Kleancolor Holo Chrome?

If this post looks familiar, that's because it is.  Well sort of.  While Tara was on vaca about a week ago, I guest posted over at Polishy of Truth and this is what I shared.  As I'm a bit too lazy today to type up a new post, I figure I'll pass this comparison along to my lovely readers.  Enjoy!

Kleancolor Holo Chrome is an absolute gem of a polish.  A glittered scattered holo jelly, Holo Chrome flashes rainbows whichever way you turn.  I'm such a lucky duck, I actually received two of these: one from Marisa and one from Jenna, my fellow Twinsies.  However, on closer inspection, the two polishes -- both named Holo Chromo, labeled number 94 -- appeared to be two different colors!  This bothered me so much, I had to experiment.

While it may be slightly more difficult in photos to see the nuance, I've included bottle shots for reference:

Confusing, huh?

I decided to swatch them side by side to make sure I wasn't losing my mind.  See if you can spot which is which.

This Holo Chrome skittle up close tells a very different story from what the bottle labels read.  As you can (hopefully) make out, my index and ring fingers have a violet purple tint while my middle and pinky fingers have a slightly more denim blue feel.

I haven't the foggiest why these are labeled the same when, to my eye, they are clearly two different colors.  I've had polishes go funny on me, losing pigmentation after awhile, but normally that is followed by a loss of formula, which was not the case here.  Both Kleancolors were equally thick and easy to work with and built up nicely in three coats.  Thus, I've redubbed these Holo Chrome Blue and Holo Chrome Purple, respectively.  Clever, right?

Here's a gratuitous flash shot for the sake of showing of the holograph in both polishes:

Not sure how to conclude this post other than to say that Quality Control slipped up a bit on this one.  However, both holos are really so pretty, I'm not suffering owning both.

P.S.  Points to whoever knows which Holo Chrome I'm holding in the pictures of each swatch!

  1. To be honest, I don't remember ?? I'm going to have to go back into my stash when I get home and compare the bottles to the pictures. But I'll let you know if you're right!

  4. OK. Because, I like points. Even if I do not get to redeem them for anything.

  8. That's crazy that Kleancolor would have the same polish name and two different shades. Lucky for you to have them both :)

  13. I have issues with Kleancolor. Some of their polishes are so freaking pretty yet they smell like death. Literally, I can almost smell Satan in them. I don't know what it is, but every Kleancolor polish I own reeks to high heaven. I always keep hoping that the stench will go away once it's on my nails, but it doesn't. It's like garlic in the way that it imbibes itself to my nails and fingers on a molecular level. Maybe I'm being a little dramatic, but I am almost dy heaving just thinking about it. This makes me so sad...especially when I see how gorgeous this holo is.

  14. Apparently that happens a lot with brands from China.

  15. I've never noticed a smell with Kleancolor and I have a ridiculously strong sense of smell. There must be something in the formula that reacts badly with your body chemistry and nose.

  17. I noticed this earlier today when I went shopping for my kleancolor polishes. The store I went to had the holo chromes seperated according to which one was blue and which one was purple. They're both gorgeous colors.

  18. That's very astute of the store you went to, because nowhere else online does anyone delineate between the two.
