China Glaze Flip Flop Fantasy

Happy Monday, ladies.  Another wonderful work week.  Ish.

To be honest, I have no idea how I missed the China Glaze Poolside Collection from 2010.  While my complete polish mania hit in fall of that year (gateway drug: China Glaze Recycle), in the past two years, I've been fairly successful stocking up on lemmings from earlier collections.  So it completely boggles my mind how I somehow overlooked the beauty that is Flip Flop Fantasy.

Perhaps the neon trend that began this spring brought this bright coral pink gem to my attention, but there really is no excuse for not adopting this earlier.  The color is uber neon and made my camera go berserk when trying to photograph it.  While this picture is color accurate, please note that this color radiates in direct sunlight.  I absolutely fell head over heels for what I can really only classify as a salmon neon polish.

The formula, however, is less amazing.  Streaky and sticky, the matte formula just dragged and refused to apply evenly.  Even with the three coats I have on here, I can still make out the uneven, pseudo-bald spots on my nails.

Formula aside, I still treasure this color.  If it's too bright for your hands, then I highly recommend it for a pedi -- I go gaga for neons on toes and think the distance to the floor makes the colors slightly more muted (although, I could totally be making that up in my head).

What do you ladies think of Flip Flop Fantasy?

  1. I often wonder how I missed certain colors/collections too! It sounds like our full polish mania set in right around the same time! This is fabulous on you! I hated neons until the CG collection this summer, so that may be why I ignored this one. It's hard to top the formulas on those ones!

  2. I haven't yet tried the new CG neons, but to be honest, most neons I have have pretty terrible formulas. They dry well once they build up and have top coat, but it's just such a pain to get to that point.

  3. I actually just took this off my nails! Like you I only got into the fulll nail polish obsession in the fall of 2010, so I missed the Poolside collection but I couldn't pass up Flip Flop Fantasy once I realized how amazing the colour is. I agree though about the formula...it's a mess. Even though it's a pain I usually put this one over a coat of white polish, it then only needs 2 coats and the streakyness is gone!

  4. I bought a white creme for that reason but I get so aggravated that it's so chalky and I end up having the same issue with the base as the actual neon. I need to find a way to make these things work because I just love neons.

  5. Very pretty! You did a great job capturing it in a photo. I have a hard time with neons!

  6. You have to be very lucky with neons. They are sometimes over saturated in photos and sometimes come off very dull. I take about a million pictures in different lighting and hope for the best!

  10. Bummer about the formula; this is gorgeous! I wonder if Trout Pout would be similar enough? The formula was not the best that bL has, but it was decent.

  11. I actually had TP but swapped it to Chelsea. While it's in the same color family, it's not nearly as intense a shade as FFF.

  13. I can't believe I missed this collection back then too. Love this color. I agree with the formula...not the best, but great color pay off!

  16. I loved this color when I saw it on pintrest! I bought a bottle at Ulta and hate the formula! It's streaky no matter how many coats I put on and chips soo easily! This is the first bottle of china glaze I have bought. Hope the rest of their $8 bottles of polish are better quality!

  17. The formula is a shame, but don't be discouraged from China Glaze because their cremes are really amazing! A lot of pastels and neons have a terrible chalk aftertaste because of the white base, so I don't hold that too much against them...as long as the other polishes in that brand are better. Also, I'm not sure where you live, but you should NOT be spending $8 a pop on China Glaze. If you buy online (Amazon, eBay, other beauty etailers), you can easily get some as low as USD $3.

  18. I wanted this purely for the name and it's another shade of pink. However because the formula is such a shame, I think I may end up passing on it...Maybe

  19. I understand the hesitation. It's gorgeous but a pain.
