Revlon Sunshine Sparkle with a Glass of Strawberry Limeade

Inspired by my polish bestie, Nory, I've been slowly getting more and more behind the yellow polish trend.  While I don't think I can pull off some of the more taxicab yellows she's been rocking, I've found myself gravitating towards more buttercream yellows that don't completely compete with my vampiric skin tone.

When I decided I needed to broaden my color horizons, I knew instantly that Revlon Sunshine Sparkle would be a good place to jump in.  As a fan of the brand, I was also kinda taken by the little shimmery flakies that shone from the bottle.  So I snatched up a bottle and went on my merry way.

To be honest, I had heard horror stories about Sunshine Sparkle's formula, that it was runny, gloopy, patchy, etc., so I didn't expect too much since I was already wary of any yellow formulas since attempting Sinful Colors Unicorn (which, while nice in the bottle, is just miserable to apply).  However, Sunshine Sparkle was not too terrible.  While streaky and bald the first two coats, a third really helped to smooth it over.

The color, as you can see is a really lovely light pastel yellow, with slight, non-chalky white undertones.  However, disappointingly, none of the flakies showed up once applied.  Such a shame because look how pretty they are in the bottle.  Sigh.

I decided to jazz this buttery mani up with a new polish my super sweet friend Sarah from See Sarah Swatch made in her newest Etsy collection.  Strawberry Limeade is comprised of pink, yellow, and matte glitter with the occasional black and blue speckle housed in a super sheer orange-tinted gloss.  Over the Revlon,  Strawberry Limeade is almost like a fun little tan and added a great spark to an otherwise office-friendly mani.

I think I'm really loving the sparse matte glitter look and may be the best way for me to wear glitter without feeling too out of my comfort zone.  Plus, Sarah's polishes just make me smile because you can see clearly how each color is so thoughtfully created.

While Sarah is currently away for the month, please make sure to check out her Etsy shop Two Birds, One Store and sign up for email alerts for when she returns.

  1. Loooove this combo! Nory really can rock those yellows, can't she? But I think they look great on you too! And Sarah's polish is gorgeous, of course! I'm wearing Spun Sugar right now. :)

  7. Even without the shimmer, it's gorgeous! I really want to get it, but I've held back due to the negative reviews I've read. I just might take a chance on it though. Strawberry Limeade is also very pretty and looks awesome layered on top.

  10. I'd say go for it if you're looking for a really soft yellow.  My advice is simply to apply your first coat very thinly, and then get a tad thicker with the next two to even out the baldness.  Once on, it really is a lovely color.

  11. I'm pretty sure it's part of the Revlon core line so you definitely should pick it up if you can!

  12. Ooh this is a nice yellow. I have had such a horrible time with yellows. I've seen this one and I keep stopping myself from buying it, and now I'm glad I didn't because I was most excited about that shimmer. Strawberry Limeade does perk it up though!

  13. If it was the shimmer you were after, then I'd agree with just moving on. I haven't seen a good shimmery yellow yet, but I'll keep my eyes open for you!

  16. So as you know I loved this combo, and I went out looking for it the other day. Could not find it, but I am glad I didn't - because I already have that Revlon polish! Good thing for stash spreadsheet...I guess. I can't tell The Huz, he will tell me if I cannot remember which polishes I have, maybe I should not buy more! ;-)

  17. You're secret is safe with me :)

To be honest, I've done the same thing before so I've bookmarked my Stash and Wish List on my phone so I can prevent this from happening again. Thank the Lord for smartphones.
