Pure Ice Shades of Grey

As I'm becoming more and more familiar with Pure Ice polishes, I've come to appreciate their kitschy nod to pop culture in marketing their brand.  Taking advantage of the 50 Shades of Grey hype -- hype, that since I've never read the book, I don't 100% get -- Pure Ice re-released a bunch of their grey polishes.

For the mani below I used three polishes: Silver Mercedes, a bright metallic silver foil; Eyes of Steel, a graphite grey metallic foil; and Lightning Strikes, a shimmery metallic crackle.

Silver Mercedes applied really well but dried fairly streaky.  Eyes of Steel was more watery and pooled at my cuticles but did not dry with the same streakiness.  The crackle topcoat worked well except as you can see, just looks more like texture on Silver Mercedes than a discernible crackle.

This is two coats of each (although, I don't recommend using two coats of crackle; the over application in this case was a mistake on my part).

For basic grey polishes, I'd definitely refer back to Pure Ice for some basic takes on a neutral color.  I'm happy that their Shades of Grey riff reminded me of that.

What do you ladies think of this metallic grey overload mani?  Would you wear any of these colors yourself?

  4. Haha! Don't you love how the inspiration of a polish makes us NEED it? I'm waiting to see if a Harry Potter collection comes out. Not holding my breath, though.

  5. I'm not a fan of these colors - I thought the collection would have some more spice to it, but I feel it's kind of lacking.

  6. I appreciate that and do agree that perhaps there should have been one "special" grey in the bunch, especially given the topic of the books. These polishes are not the most striking greys, but very basic metallics and while metallics are not quite my thing, I know that a lot of girls respond to colors and finishes like this. Good point about lacking spice, though!
