Jessica Cosmetics Gelato Mio Summer 2012 Collection

I am so excited to share with you ladies one of the sweetest summer collections for 2012.  Jessica Cosmetics, a brand that is becoming more and more present in the blogosphere, was kind enough to send me the entire Gelato Mio collection.  Inspired by the catwalk pastels, these soft ice cream hues exude a "fresh, femininity with positive yet subtle vibes."  I couldn't agree more.

First up is Banana Peel, a warm-toned yellow creme with beige undertones.  I personally struggle with yellows, both with the color and the formulas.  I have to admit that Banana Peel is the best yellow I have ever tried and may be my favorite color in the collection.  Because its base is slightly more beige than most pastels, this yellow works with my cool toned skin tone instead of against it.  The formula was workable with patience; as I found with most of the collection, more of thinner coats helps to avoid streaks, bald spots, or cuticle pooling that I struggled with initially before reapplying the polish for this swatch.

This is 2 coats.

Strawberry Shake It is a heavily white-based pink pastel.  The worst formula of the bunch, I found SSI thick and watery leading to a less entertaining application process.  The color, however, makes up for the annoyance: while a very light, baby pink pastel, there's a brightness (almost whiteness) that is reminiscent of the chalky white polish trend that has been popping up here and there this summer.

This is 3 coats.

Surfer Boyz'n Berry was a bit difficult to photograph because as a color, it's both a dusty and pastel aqua, something I've never quite seen before.  On the nail, it doesn't pop as much as a typical aqua does, but certainly has a really refreshing tone to it that unfortunately for me, doesn't look as cool on my skin tone.  One of the few crellies of the collection, the application was really great and smooth.

This is 2 coats.

Barely Bluebell, like Strawberry Shake It, is a heavily-white based pastel.  While the application was much easier than SSI because of it's more crelly nature, it actually dries to look like a creme.  One of the lightest sky blue polishes I own, it's not the most unique color in the bunch but certainly a pretty one.  My apologies for the slightly blurry picture.

This is 3 coats.

Lime Cooler, the best formula of the bunch, is a straight up crelly.  This somewhat reminds me of China Glaze Gaga for Green but because it's somewhat more creamy, the color is much more palatable to my tastes.  What I like best about this shade is that is a green pastel that is not a mint!  Lime colors often bleed into the neon or fugly families so I really appreciate how delicate yet unique this summer green is.  This was definitive one of my faves.

This is 2 coats.

In 2012, it's impossible to have a collection without an orange!  Tangerine Dreamz is not super unique but an awesome dusty orange crelly that I'd consider to be a summer neutral.  It's not in your face but it definitely makes a statement as well.  Although it does not have a white base (thankfully!), it reminds me of an orange creamsicle.  I must have a million oranges like this but for some reason, but I still really appreciate this shade.  My main concern however is the fact that they spelled "dreams" with a 'z.'  That makes me craaazy.

This is 2 coats and the second best formula.

When I think of all these colors as a whole, I instantly think soft and refreshing, which I imagine if you name a collection Gelato Mio is what you were going for.  While the cremes in this bunch could do with a little formula tweaking, I have to say for my first go at Jessica polishes, I was very satisfied.  Not only are these colors on trend, they are classic and I imagine I'll be wearing them for years.

A side yet important point that I really appreciated about Jessica Cosmetics is that they also produce a little product magazine.  In addition to a note from Jessica herself and pictures from her granddaughter's wedding (which inspired the Bliss is This Wedding Collection), the The Connect mag has a number of glossy pages about upcoming collections and their inspirations.  I really respond to collections that are clearly inspired and cohesively created so I of course read my mini mag cover to cover.  It really made this collection come to life.

Your turn ladies.  What do you think of this collection and the brand in general?
