Twinsie Tuesday: Revlon Iced Mauve

This Tuesday brings two new Twinsies to you ladies.  Please make sure to check out Tara and Cordia's blogs and welcome them to Tuesdays!

Anyways, to the challenge.  This week we have to post our most hated or unflattering polish.  My issue with this was that any polish that I find unflattering I don't buy, and any polish I have that I dislike I give away.  However, there is one color group that just will never look well on me.  Fortunately for this challenge, I happened to have been gifted a classic Revlon that fit the criteria: pinky-browns or brown-leaning reds.  These colors always look muddy and make me look slightly jaundiced.  I don't know why, but try as I might, I can't get them to work.  Essie Size Matters was the nail in the coffin for these colors in Amandaland.

But like I said before my digression, I happened to have come into possession of Revlon Iced Mauve.  A pinky-brown roset shimmer, I just knew from the bottle that this color would just fail epically on me.  So of course, the minute I put it on and start photographing it, I saw the universe decided to mess with my head because the pictures looked good.  Sigh.  No, this polish still wasn't at all pretty on me but I'm frankly annoyed that these swatches came out somewhat flattering.  It's like my camera (oh, and the universe) were conspiring to screw up another Twinsie Tuesday for me.  Blah.  And yes, for the record, I do blame inanimate objects on a pretty consistent basis.

This is two somewhat watery coats.

My saving grace is that my skin tone does look a bit yellow.  I could easily lie and say I told you so about this polish but I'm a terribly liar.  The yellowness is simply because I took these pictures under the pathetic excuse for a lamp I have in my room.  But let's pretend that I was right and this color is super unflattering.

Looking forward to seeing what terrible polishes my Twinsies came up with!

  1. I can see why you would not like this one.

It is the same thing as when your hair and the universe decide to cooperate the day you go to cut off your hair because it has been so unmanageable.

  2. Well I like it in the pictures ;0)

  3. Icey Mauve.. that doesn't even sound ok. Your swatches really don't look that bad, but I can see what you mean. I hate icey pinks with a passion. Especially if they have visible brushstrokes. I takes a lot for me to wear pink in the first place so when they have stuff like that it's like ughhh.

  4. I actually like pinks, but this is a dirty pink.  It's kinda like JWowww: pretty girl, but skanking herself up does her no favors.

  8. Ha, it's the downfall of this week's challenge: good photography-ish.

  9. It looks so super frosty! It almost hurts my eyes and makes me wanna puke. Weird. I know. (This is totally random but I was like this when I looked at glitter polishes while I was pregnan.) Anywho, I do like the pictures! (=

  11. Ha, thanks!  But yeah, ugly polish.

  12. It's beyond granny.  My own grandmother wears hot pink and red.

  13. I totally get it photographing a Mani to look like it does in real life is so hard for me too. This is kinda meh for me too, so I get it. LOL!

  14. I remember you telling me before you did not like pinky-browns. But I have to admit, this looks rather nice in the pictures.

  16. These pics DO look good!  But I can tell that color would blend right in to my skin color and look like Grandma hands!

  17. I think that's what happened to mine, decent pictures of the yellow and orange!  This isn't a color I would pick either.

  18. I really like this on you!  LOL

  19. Thanks, ChiChi, but yeah, it's pretty bad in real life.

  20. Do you want it?  I'm happy to gift it to you!

  21. Haha I actually don't think it looks that bad on you :) I'm not saying this is going to happen... but... sometimes there are colors I really, really hate on myself and then one day I am craving that exact shade and LOVE it. Happens the other way, too, when I'll love a color on myself and then the next time I wear it, I can't stand it ;)

  22. Thanks, Amy.  I know exactly what you mean and I've regretted gifting polishes before.  But more often than not, it's the love to hate situation.

  23. This reminds me of a polish that would be passed around a retirement home lol. While it does look good in your pictures, I could imagine this in bright daylight. I definitely understand why you're not a fan :)

  24. Hahaha, "passed around a retirement home." Amazing.

  25. I feel ya on the pinky browns/reddish browns. They have the same effect on my skintone. And anything named "iced mauve" is bound to be a granny color haha.

  26. Lol I love your sense of humor...the universe is conspiring against you. I agree about this type of color. It always looks ugly on my nails.

  27. Agreed. Bad job with the banking, Revlon.

  28. Thank you for appreciating my warped sense of humor :)

  29.  Am there right now but not going to get it cut...it's finally right to my shoulders - but ugh what a battle this is been from all layers and spike to this point. I need another 4" to make it so I can 'think' I have long hair again - for me - that means another year - though it does grow faster in summer!
