Twinsie Tuesday: Ombre

Twinsie Tuesday, girls!

Today's challenge was to produce an ombre mani.  The girls had a brief discussion about what exactly ombre means, whether it was from dark to light per nail or per hand.  Since I consider from dark to light per nail a gradient, my ombre goes from dark to light from my pointer to my pinky.

Determining the colors was not as difficult as I imagined.  Oddly enough, I chose to go with sagey greens, or rather greens with a dusty quality to them.  I anticipated that I would fulfill this challenge with purples but I slightly proud of myself for choosing a color family I don't have as much of.

As I polished the first four colors I chose, I realized that two didn't really jive.  I had to switch the colors in the middle to work with the ones that seemed to blend and I'm really quite happy with how it came out.

To see the ombre in glass, I've taken bottle shots.

If you can't make out what I wrote, the colors are Zoya Yara, Essie Sew Psyched, Sinful Colors Open Seas, and Sally Hansen Green Tea.

The only part I don't like is that Yara is the only polish with flakie shimmer, the rest are all standard cremes.  But nevertheless, I think the sagey, dusty quality carried through the four colors.  I also am a bit annoyed at my dry cuticles in the second picture and I can only blame that on the fact that I was using acetone to remove the colors that I swapped during this mani.

While you decided whether or not you like my ombre spread, make sure to check out my Twinsies' take on ombre.

  3. Thanks, Sarah! Yeah, I prefer a uniform ombre, but it was the only darker green I had that went with the rest.

  4. I quite like it. Fun choices, lady! It looks awesome on you. Was there anything on the thumb?

  5. I was hoping no one would ask that. No, I didn't do the thumb. I can't find a way to photograph my whole hand without it looking claw-like, so I just avoided it entirely.

  9. Unfortunately, that collection was hard to find. I stumbled across it randomly at Bed Bath and Beyond a few months ago and got so excited, I bought the whole collection.

  10. I NEED that complete salon manicure color.. is it a dupe for anything?

  11. Hmmm...I don't think so. It's actually my favorite mint polish simply because it's so light and non-chalky. It came out as part of the CSM Designer Collaborations last year but I see it around randomly in stores from time to time. If you're interested, I can keep my eyes open to pick up for you...?

  14. This is a beautiful ombre! You used some really pretty "dirty" type greens. Zoya Yara has been on my wishlist for such a long time. I really need to get myself a bottle.

  16. I know! I was surprised that it worked too!

  17. I've never been a green fan, let alone the "dirty" colors, but Yara has changed my mind. I think the flakies save it from looking too much like vomit, but it's just so gorgeous! (Although, I have a hard time using the words "vomit" and "gorgeous" in the same sentence.)

  18. I was a little shocked that you didn't use purple but I like the color family you chose. Who knew dirty greens could be pretty?
