Models Own Lilac Dream

As my family lives in London, I send them on random polish goose chases from time to time. When my cousin flew in to go on a girls vaca in the DR, I made sure my list was submitted in time to receive my polishes when she landed.

Of course, I included Models Own on my list, as we poor, deprived Americans don't have access to it and prior to starting my blog, had never even heard of this company.  Oddly enough, my family over there had never even heard of Models Own either (and these are serious girly girls) but after some searching my aunt found a meager few at River Island.  (Question to my UK girls located in London: where you typically pick your MOs up?  I was told they're not at Boots either :/)

Anyways, Lilac Dream is one of my favorite colors; I really adore pinky purples in all shades.    This pastel creme was soft on the eyes and really complimented my skin tone.  What I was not a fan of was the formula which I can only describe as wonky.  Somewhat thick yet watery (pooling at cuticles was not fun to clean up), I was shocked at how cumbersome the application was for this polish.

This is 2 coats.

You can still make out some pooling residue on my index finger, so apologies for that.  Apart from the formula, I think Lilac Dream dried really creamy and probably could have used two coats of top coat since it wasn't as shiny as I usually like.

I realize I'm giving this polish a hard time, but I'm totally up to trying another one out.  Hopefully when I go to London in June I'll be able to pick a few more up that won't be quite as wonky.

So UK girls, here's your chance: where do you get your Models Own and are they all like this??

  9. Hi there!  I am a big fan of all things purple so this color looks lovely.  I'm sorry the formula wasn't right. :(

I know that MO is not readily available, but I believe both Ninja Polish (http://ninjapolish.com) and Harlow & Co (http://www.harlowandco.org) carry some bottles.

I'm very jealous that you have family in London who can pick these up for you.  I have a colleague who 'might' be UK-bound for work purposes.  I am so tempted to impose upon her to pick some up for me.  If I do, any suggestions on what I should request. :)

  12. They are stocked in Boots, although not always the whole range and only in the larger stores. by the time I've driven out to the nearest big store and parked I might as well have paid the delivery fee from the MO site. lol

I'm always happy to do swaps with those who want some (& Barry M too).

  17. I'm a fan of Barry M.  If you are going to impose on her for anything, those are the polishes to have!  Barry M Berry Ice Cream is one of my faves.

  18. I'll have to check out Boots when I'm there since my aunt couldn't find them at her local one.  And thanks for the heads up about swaps!  If you're interested in any American polishes in particular, I'm happy to have a small swap with you.  Feel free to email me anytime, amandalandish(at)gmail(dot)com.

  21. The Westfield shopping centre is the best place for Models Own...the Boots there has a reasonable selection, but the best thing is a nail polish bottle shaped Models Own pop-up shop on the second floor near the food court and Apple store, where I think you can get every shade the sell. I don't own any of the brand yet so can't comment on the quality, but have my eye on a few... Not sure how long the pop-up shop will be there for, or if it's a permanent fixture. But it's so pretty!

  22. Sorry you didn't love it. It's still a pretty shade!

  23. Yes you do!  I have a feeling that you're gonna love them just because they're British ;)

  24. This is perfect!  I want to go to Westfield when I get to London since I haven't been there yet, especially to visit the polish bottle store.  Thank you for such amazingly precise locations!  I can't tell you how much I appreciate that :)

  25. I get Model's Own from Boots.
I have 5 of them, all of which are horrible to apply. Thick, can never get it smooth on the nail. It's kind of like applying proper paint to my nails. I kept thinking 'Oh maybe this one will be different'... nope.
So I only use them for nail art. It's a shame really because they have such pretty colours, and not too badly priced.

  26. Good to know! I may not be buying all that many MOs when I'm on your side of the pond after all...
