Orly Oui

I'm not typically a huge foil fan, but something about Orly Oui from the Holiday Soiree Collection last winter (or this winter?  I don't know, whatever 2011 is considered, that's the winter) that made me neeeed this.  So much so, I spelled need with four e's.

My Sally's is very hit or miss with the Orly collections they carry so I went on the hunt.  I finally found Oui at a really snooty beauty store at a mall near my grandmother in New Jersey.  It's a shame they were so horrible because after this purchase, I will not go back despite the fact that they must carry every Zoya polish known to man.

Anyways, back to Oui (seriously, no horrible French pun intended there).  Yet again, this polish falls under the Amanda wanted, Amanda needed, Amanda finally found and then was disappointed by category.  While Oui is quite lovely, with its purple jelly undertones and heavy gold foil flecks, it just did not pack the punch I had hoped.  I've found that a lot of purple polishes with a form of gold shimmer that I own have been disappointing me recent;y so it may just be that my tastes have drastically changed in the past few months.

This is three coats that applied well but thinly.

What upsets me the most about this is that even when I go back to other people's swatches, I still think it looks fantastic on them.  It could very well be my skin tone is too pale for this and competes with the pale gold foil, but in the meantime, I've decided that this baby will be finding a new home shortly.

Thoughts, girls?

  1. It is a lovely polish! I hate being disappointed by polishes too, that's when they become frankens!

  2. Wow Amanda it is too bad you don't like it because it is very pretty and it looks great on you. I don't even remember seeing swatches of this one before or I must be losing my mind with so  many polishes! All in all its a gorgeous polish I think... :)

  6. Aw, thanks, Iris!  I don't think this went under the radar with Fowl Play and Androgynie getting all the air time.  It's more available now that the holidays are over.

  7. I think it really depends on the shade of the foil with the skin tone because they can easily get washed out.

  8. Sorry you were disappointed with it! I've been craving this one too! I'm very pale though, so it might not look good on me either!

  14. This one jumped into my pile of Zoya Faye similar looking polishes that ranged from pink/gold foil to purple/pink/gold foil.  Hate that want, find, buy, disappointed pile. I need to be taking those right away and putting them into a different database - different drawer and working to find homes for those vs. leaving them kicking around in my collection.
