OPI I Have a Herring Problem

Happy Easter to all those celebrating today!

My apologies for not posting yesterday but with the Passover mania that hit on Friday, I've barely had a second to do anything.  I was actually thinking of scratching this weekend and calling it a blogging bust, but in the end, after the polish fumes had subsided I came to my senses and realized I had too many beautiful swatches in reserve that couldn't bare to wait much longer :)

Anyways, OPI I Have a Herring Problem.  As I'm sure you're all aware by now, Herring Problem is one of the shimmers from the OPI Holland Collection.  A close dupe to Zoya Skylar, this polish is what I'd describe as a dusty denim blue with heavily-present silvery white micro-fine fleck shimmer.  I've seen this described as both teal-leaning and somewhat green, but from my personal experience with this, neither is true.  Herring Problem is definitely in the slate blue family and reads that way in real life.  Who knows?  Maybe the polish fumes got to those blogger too!  (I kid, I kid.)

The application on Herring Problem was somewhat better than the other few polishes I have from this OPI collection, and while it was certainly not as watery, did need three coats to achieve a really deep, opaque color.

While I love a shimmer just as much as the next girl, I think these silvery flecks overwhelm the blue, making it appear overly dusty and washed out.  I think this kind of shimmer needs a stronger base color (royal purple, perhaps?), and has made this polish a slight letdown for me.  I can't wait to try I Don't Give a Rotterdam, the lighter version of this polish from the same collection, to see if I feel the same way about that shimmer.  Stay tuned for that swatch.

What do you girls think of the shimmer on this?  Too much or just right?

  1. I'm actually really fond of the shimmer to it. I've been growing fonder and fonder of shimmer polishes, and I quite like the effect this one has. I actually intended to buy this one today, but accidentally grabbed Rotterdam in my hurry. D: Whoops! I think I might prefer Rotterdam anyway: It's a bit subtler.

  2. This was one of the first shades from the collection that I purchased so maybe that makes me a little biased!  But, I like the color.  I did look at Rotterdam too but, put it back down.  Now I'm kinda curious how it might look compared with IHAHP.

  6. My mom actually "stole" Rotterdam from me for a pedicure so I have yet to compare them myself!  But while I do love shimmer, sometimes it's just too much and the color gets completely lost.

  7. There are a number of bloggers that did comparisons with those two and Zoya Skylar.  I think Polishaholic was one of them...?

  12. I think the shimmer looks great! It'd be too flat & boring otherwise!

  13. I hear that since the base color isn't super interesting.  But it's just a tad too much shimmer for my liking.
