Hunger Game's Effie Trinket Inspired Pure Ice Manicure

We all know the China Glaze Hunger Games Collection.  Probably the most anticipated collection of 2012, to the unaffiliated like myself, the colors just didn't exactly make sense together.  Friends who have read the book and/or seen the movie explained that the polishes were inspired by the various districts in Panem, the world in which the Hunger Games occur.  Regardless of my ambivalence to the collection, like the books, the polishes became a cult phenomenon.

When I read that Pure Ice was also doing a Hunger Games inspired line, I was actually disappointed.  Pure Ice is one of my favorite brands and I didn't like that it was jumping on the Hunger Games bandwagon.  However, when I read the press release more closely, I realized that unlike China Glaze's entirely new collection, Pure Ice created "inspired by" polish looks from its present collection to recreate the utterly over the top manicures worn by Effie Trinket (played by Elizabeth Banks) in the films.

Here are a few pictures of the wildly ridiculous and supremely amazing Effie Trinket manis:

While I personally would never recreate such manicures, I do love the opulence of these looks.  The gold encrusted fuchsia and the aqua blue, silver studded fingertips just command attention.

Inspired by this, Pure Ice assembled a line-up of equally opulent colors to create a palette worthy of Effie.  I skittled these colors for you ladies so you can get a glimpse of how rich and fun these polishes are together.

Each is two coats (except for the yellow crackle, which is one).

From left to right:
Silver Mercedes
Pool Party
Beware with Catwalk Crackle
Jamaica Me Crazy
This is not exactly a quintessential Amanda look, but I that's what I think Pure Ice was going for: the chance for the average girl to infuse a little piece of a larger than life character into her life.

For a closer look at these colors, please stay tuned to my upcoming swatches.  Even individually, these polishes are delicious!

What do you ladies think of this Effie-inspired skittle?  Do you think this was an interesting idea from Pure Ice?

  6. Sorry that you don't like THG (I adore it lol) but Effie's looks gave me so much life. She was one of the very few characters who 100% met my expectations when translated to the big screen. Your translation of her nail looks is pretty too.

  8. I like your enthusiasm about this character.  I wish I saw the movie so that I might have a bit more to draw on for this mani, although to be honest, her looks are waaaay outside my comfort zone.  This is my mini homage.

  11. This is great!!!!! :D  It's funny, I remember chatting with you about the Hunger Games, and since then I've seen the movie and loved it, and despite the present tense first person writing in the books, I bought the first one and am quite enjoying it!

  13. Pretty!!! I'm kind of digging that sheer yellow-gold crackle, not something I would usually gravitate towards but I'm loving it!

  15. I'm glad you like it!  Maybe I'll bite the bullet and deal with the first-person aspect of the book.  In the meantime, I've part of the Hunger Games world through the nail polish :)

  17. It's definitely a different kind of crackle and I layered it over a sheer silver glitter so you can make it out.

  18. I hadn't seen this set yet from Pure Ice. I need to check it out! I, too, was disappointed by the CG HG collection. Reading the books even, I did not see much of a correlation. ANYWAY...for the price I'd check these out for sure! I think the silver and the pink look nice, but I've been on a blue kick lately so I could see falling in love with that one, too!

  19. The blue, Pool Party, is actually pretty amazing. I always prefer blue-leaning teals, so that polish really satisfies. I'll be posting it soon so you can see for yourself!

  20. Awesome post! I wasn't aware that Pure Ice had done this :) They have great polishes and I like how they took a different approach to the Hunger Games!

  21. Me too!  Although now that I've seen Hunger Games, I think it's a bit weird that polishes were made to complement the movie :/
