Bettina Preppy with a Pure Ice gold accent

I'm not hugely into nail art, as I'm sure you clever readers have picked up on.  However, sometimes I too can be inspired to step outside my one-color-per-mani box and try something a bit different.

In fact, I was really impressed by this pin on Pinterest which summed up everything a girl could possibly need in her hands: pink, bling, and caffeine.  (Click the link to get the caffeine reference.)  I was desperate to recreate this look and went rustling through my stash for the perfect and girliest pink.

Bettina Preppy, sent to me by my girlie Nory, is the lightest, loveliest pink creme and has a really nice dusty quality that makes this very demure in my eyes.  But for some reason, I just didn't think a silver glitter accent nail would go with this shade and opted for a gold, unnamed Pure Ice shimmer.  The warmer shade complimented Preppy nicely, don't you think?

I really like looking at this inspired mani and hope to feel more comfortable branching out to try other accent nail manicures.  I'm glad Pinterest helped push me in this case :)

Do you girls have any suggestions for me in my accent nail trials?

  3. Thanks!  I was really happy the way it turned out too!  Now I'm just looking for the right, cool-toned pastel pink that would look well with a silver accent.

  6. Pretty! :) Basically with accent nails it's really hard to go wrong! I like to pair warm colours with other warm colours and cool with cool, but almost anything works! Accent nails were actually how I got into nail art actually, I started doing art on one nail as an accent, then it spread... ;)

  8. First thing about this many - I just LOVE this gold! It looks so..... GOLD!
IMO it has the perfect shade and the perfect texture and the perfect bling to look elegant and sophisticated!

As for the combination - at first look I thought - hey, they don't go along! Why didn't she use silver???
But then I gave it another look. You're right - the warmth of the gold compliments the pink very much. Without it it would just be dull.

    So what's the gold?? ;-))

  11. I agree that mixing and matching works, especially with shimmer or metallic accents.  I think it's funny that accent nails gave you the nail art bug :)

  12. Thanks so much for this comment!  I really appreciate your thought process when seeing my swatch.  I should try silver with Preppy once to see if the coolness complements it, as you initially thought.

As for the gold, it doesn't really have a name.  It's just labeled Pure Ice 582C but I highly recommend being on the lookout for it since it's one of my favorite polishes to accent with (I also have the same thing in silver).
