Updated Review (Please Read)

Hi ladies.

I've never done this sort of thing before so I'm not sure if it's "taboo" in the blogging world. However, as a blogger who received products for review, I feel it's important that my reviews are accurate and comprehensive since I know that many smaller cosmetic businesses are made or broken on the word of reviewers.  I'm by no means implying that I hold that much power, but I feel it is important for me to revisit my review of Soulstice Spa Lisbon and Hana from earlier this week.

For reference, these are my swatches:

I mentioned that I experienced tremendous chipping with this polish, which I know was a topic of concern in the comment section.  The creator of this line, a really lovely woman named Kayse, was very gracious about my review and apologized for the chipping.  She mentioned that other bloggers had not experienced chipping so she wasn't sure what the issue was.

After reading that, I felt it necessary to investigate why I had experienced such bad chipping when most reviewers hadn't.  This of course is premised on the fact that most bloggers who review products are equally honest and forthcoming with their product reviews.

After about three days of experimenting, I have discovered that it was my base coat -- and not Soulstice Spa polish -- that led to the chipping.  I didn't realize that I had just switched to a different base coat (Color Club base coat, in case your wondering) and that every polish I used over it subsequently chipped just as bad as with Lisbon and Hana.

That being said, I have amended my original post to reflect a more accurate review of Soulstice Spa polish.

I apologize for any misconceptions I may have caused and hope that this update will give a better portrayal of a polish that is safe, easy to use, and provides luscious color.

  1. You are so nice for doing this! I really love and admire the fact that you came back and clarified the issue. That's really sweet! It is really important for the rest of us consumers to know what you think of the product but also take into account many other factors like a base coat in this case. <3

  3. Aw thanks!  I think it's important for me, both as a person and a reviewer, to be honest with my opinions.  If something proves incorrect, since I have such a public platform, I feel it's my responsibility to cover all my bases and revisit an issue just as publicly.  I'm glad that you appreciated this and took the time to read my update :)

  7. Oh my gosh when I used the Color Club basecoat, the same thing happened! I had a penguin on my nail and the whole poor penguin popped off :(

  9. What a real honest blogger we have here, coming back on a review, I like that and thanks for this!  I never thought before of the base coat being a cause of chipping off polishes.... Good to know!

  13. That's so honorable of you to come back and clarify what happened. What base coat were you using before you switched to Color Club?

  16. Yeah, it's a terrible base coat unfortunately.

  18. Yup, base coat plays a big factor as I just found out :/

  19. Previously, I used Sinful Colors base coat which I loved -- cheap, 3 free, and fabulously adhesive. I guess I assumed all base coats were the same so I paid no mind when I switched to the Color Club.

  23. Yeah, me too. Chipping is a major turn off so I'm glad I corrected that.
