Pure Ice Purple Reign

I have an unabashed love for Pure Ice polishes.  Once I found them at the one Walmart that's within driving distance from me, I was hooked.  For $1.97, you get amazing color and coverage and a fairly good formula.  So of course, I began collecting them.

I couldn't, however, find Purple Reign, a lemming of mine that was going unsatisfied.  Iris from Polish Amor generously offered to find one for me and after a few weeks of looking, she found it!  I will forever be indebted to the amazingness that is Iris.  (Seriously girls, she's great.  You must follow her blog.)

Purple Reign is a hard polish to photograph so I'm exceptionally disappointed with my swatches.  The color is a deep red-based purple that is flushed with gold shimmer.  You can see from the bottle shots how present that shimmer really is.  In normal light (these pictures were taken at night and thus, with flash), the color is subdued and the shimmer muted, but it still remains a lovely, sophisticated plum.

The formula was not the best of the all the Pure Ices I've tried.  I tend to prefer polishes that are a tad bit thicker so those who prefer thinner formulas will appreciate this.  To note, this is not watery at all, just a bit on the thin side for me.  I used three coats for coverage but with flash, you can make out some bald spots.  Those don't show up in normal light so it's really not a major issue.

All in all, I'm super thrilled to have had this lemming satisfied.  I'm a purple fanatic and this color fits perfectly with my plethora of purples collection.

Again, thanks to Iris for finding this!  She really made my week with this.

Thoughts, ladies?

  1. Lovely. How similar is it to Dutch Ya Just Love OPI?

  2. In terms of color, I much prefer this one.  The shimmer is much more present in Purple Reign than in Dutch Ya Just Love OPI and the purple base is a bit more interesting.  Dutch Ya was a bit hyped up, in my opinion, while this delivers what I think OPI had promised in the initial swatches.

  9. This looks a lot like one from the spring Zoya collection called Lotus and one from the Holland collection from OPI - think it's called Don't Ya Love My Tulips.

  12. It really is...plummy purples are just a great way to transition from the vampier, bloodier purples of the winter.

  14. You MUST!  The brand is the equivalent to Sinful Colors in my eyes: cheap in price but not in formula.

  22. Unfortunately, it's not sold that widely here either. Only at Walmarts. Hopefully, if there's enough buzz and demand, they can distribute it more widely, and then to Europe more generally.
