China Glaze Gothic Lolita

Tonight, I'll be attending a PR event and meeting one of my favorite blogger friends, Marisa from Polish Obsession!

In honor of the occasion, I'm going to post a beautiful polish that Marisa sent to me a few weeks ago.  Get excited girls, this is going to be a good one.

China Glaze Gothic Lolita, from the Spring ElectroPop Collection, appears to be, in the bottle, a pretty standard medium-toned purple.  While I liked swatches I had seen, I was not entirely blown away by it; but as it was a purple and I'm quite in love with purple polish, I felt it was necessary to add it to my wish list.

However, when I received this beauty from Marisa and swatched it, I was completely taken aback.  The formula was AMAZING.  And I mean AMAZING.  Did you get that?  AMAZING.  I've always been on the fence about China Glaze formula and application and always felt it was kinda hit or miss.  Gothic Lolita was buttery perfection in two coats; the best China Glaze formula I've ever used.

And the color!  This is not just a standard medium purple.  If you look at the last picture taken with flash, you can make out the electric blue undertone that while not a shimmer, makes this purple glow in normal light.

So lesson learned: You cannot judge a polish by its swatch, ladies, you just can't.

Of the four ElectroPop polishes I own, this is by far the lushest.  Purple lovers take note of this China Glaze...it won't disappoint!

Most importantly, thanks to my girly Marisa for sending this my way!  And I can't wait to meet you shortly!

  4. I am nuts for this shade. I first thought I would buy nothing from the Electropop collection - they all seemed like ones that had been out before by CG. But then I started to look at my collection and realized I did not have some of the shades that appealed to me in this collection because my wearing tastes are getting broader now days. So while I think there are others out there like this - I see a lot of reasons for companies to repeat shades that are close dupes. There are always drifting likes and dislikes and new to polich-a-holic world who want to start their collections.

  8. You make a really good point!  I initially thought the same thing about the ElectroPop collection, but even though there are some pretty standard colors that are easily dupable, each brand has their own take (whether formula, opacity, etc.) on the color so that everyone can find the polish that works for them!
