Golden Rose Velvet Matte 101

Of the three giveaways I won during my one week of wins (my luck has since stopped), I was lucky to have received a number of matte Golden Rose polishes from Poland courtesy of Katie's Handmade.  I previously had only tried one other matte polish from Revlon and was really disappointed in both the sheerness and how quickly it chipped.  I was much more enthusiastic to try out another brand, especially if it came by free!

As many European brands, this bright baby blue matte doesn't have a name, just "101."  As a matte, this applies thickly and smoothly with a very dry finish.  It's not the mattest of mattes, but it's still pretty interesting given the shimmer scattered in this polish.

With a top coat, this polish comes alive though.  Look at that shine!  Look at that silver shimmer!  Looks just like a winter morning sky...or anything else that is light blue with shimmer (can you tell how uncomfortable I am waxing poetic about polish colors?).

This last picture is with a top coat and flash and for some reason looks matte.  I very much liked this polish, however, I will probably continue to wear this with a top coat.  As much as I think I'm going to try matte, it always just looks blah to me...which I suppose is the point.

But as a color and formula, Golden Rose was a real treat to use!  I'm really happy that I have two more of these GR mattes to play with :)

What do you girlies think of mattes?  Have any favorites?  And have any of you tried Golden Rose polishes?  Should I be adding more to my wishlist?

  1. I do like mattes, but I just buy regular polish and put a matte top coat over it if I want matte.  ^-^  I LOVE THIS POLISH!!! :D

  4. I am in love with this blue.  It's so pretty!!!  I personally am not into matte polishes. My polish needs to have a shine.  Sometimes I see it on others and I like it though, weird.

  5. I'm with you: I sometimes think it works on other people, but when I do use matte, I have to control myself from using a top coat.

  7. Such a springy color!  I love mattes, but I don't tend to buy them!  Like Ashesela, I put a matte top coat over if I want the effect!  Yay for winnings!!!

  14. Thanks, Amy! I always thought red and purple were my colors, but I may have to rethink that now that my green stash is happily multiplying...
