FixMySkin Balm: Day 1

Last night, I came home to find that I received three FixMySkin products for my review.

Included in my package was:

1 Healing Balm Stick, .5 fl oz.
1 Healing Balm Lip Balm, .15 fl oz.
1 Healing Balm Salve Pot, .25 fl oz.

My selection was vanilla flavored and all contained 1% Hydrocortisone.

Each package claims that it is:

"Great for chapped lips, irritated, cracked and dry skin, seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema, poison ivy, and insect bites!"

In order to undergo a thorough review, I will be provide a review on the first day and last day of regular use on my lips and eczema spots on my arms for a period of a week.

Day 1

Packaging
Because this product contains cortisone, a steroid that can thin the skin and make healing slower, I think FixMySkin was wise to include the warning to only use this product 3-4 times daily.  I have never seen any other product containing Hydrocortisone list this warning so that already is a major plus in my book.

The packaging in general for these products is clean, bright, and self-explanatory.  They also include individual expiration dates, which is helpful for those who hoard lip balms and other similar products that do in fact go bad.

Ingredients
Hydrocortisone, Beeswax, C12-15 Alkyl Benzoate, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Germ Extract, Meadow Foam (Limnanthes Alba) Seed Oil, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Shea Butter (Butyrospermum Parkii) Extract, Silica, Stearyl Alcohol, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Seed Butter, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch. (Vanilla also contains Vanilla Flavor.)

Scent
The vanilla scent is very subtle but definitely noticeable.  There is no potent base scent that the vanilla masks so this really has a sweet, fresh smell.

Texture
Since each product (stick, balm, pot) contains the same ingredients, they are all identical in texture.  Like a typical lip balm, this has a waxy feel but applies smoothly, leaving a thin shiny sheen.  I like the fact that this isn't tacky but still has a slight gloss feel.

Immediate Results?
I used the stick to spot a rather itchy, eczema prone area on my forearm and since then, the itch has disappeared and the area is no longer red.  For my lips, which have been particularly dry and peely the past few weeks, this product has provided some dryness relief, but as I write this, I can still feel the uneven, peeling on my lips.

Check back in next Tuesday when I give my final results after a week of use.  Fingers crossed this helps my sensitive, eczema prone skin!

  4. I completely understand!  I literally walk around with a tube of Aquaphor that I am constantly slathering all over my face and lips.  I hope that this product can be a nice and easy fix when my skin gets particularly bad.
