China Glaze Ingrid

I craved this polish for an ENTIRE YEAR before I was lucky enough to meet the adorable Sarah who swapped this to me.  Seriously, this girl has every polish known to man...and is opening an Etsy shop!  As soon as she gives me deets, you ladies will be the first to know!

Anyways, back to Ingrid.  This polish, from the Vintage Vixen Collection from Fall 2010, is clearly inspired by the lovely Ingrid Bergman.  A sultry taupe brown, this polish is the perfect neutral autumnal polish.  In two coats, Ingrid applied as well as any other China Glaze (that means very well) and covered opaquely.

What I absolutely adore about this polish is that it is clearly brown (as opposed to a lot of those darker browns that either seem black or like melted chocolate...and that's a euphemism, ladies) and has that ridiculously gorgeous gold shimmer running through it.

Take a look:

This polish is an example of why China Glaze is so loved as a brand.  In theory this is a just a basic blah shade, but viewed as a whole in the collection (which is one of my favorite collections ever...but mostly because it's inspired by the 1920s and 1930s), it really has a remarkable throwback quality.  I feel all Casblancan in it.

You can see my other swatches from this collection (Midnight Mission and Emerald Fitzgerald) here and here.

Now you ladies: What are your favorite brown polishes?

  1. This is one of the first polishes I bought in a blog sale when I started collecting and I didn't pay any attention to it for the longest time but it is really pretty. Looks great with Finger Paints flakies over it too.

  2. I imagine the brown with the flakies must make this look really glowing and autumnal. Interesting idea for a mani, thanks!

  3. This is definitely a major favorite of the polishes I own.  It is gorgeous.  Have I ever told you how much I LOVE your nails?  They are perfect!

  4. I didn't like brown polish until I saw this one :D

  5. Aw, thanks Jen! I just got the best (and cheapest!) cuticle cream since I've suffering from really bad hang nails lately. Check out those little circle jars of Nivea cream that retail for like $.99. Literally sop them into your cuticles and your nails will glow.

  6. It's not your typical run of the mill brown ;)

  7. This is beautiful!!  I love the shimmer in it.  My favorite browns are Avon's Vintage Boutique and Aldo Chocolate Factory.

  10. From swatches, VB looks like a demurer version of Ingrid.  And I'm still totally shocked that Aldo has a polish line.  How have I never seen these??

  11. It's one of those secret treasures from CG; if you like browns, you must get this!

  14. Oooh I love how this looks on you! I had it for a long time before I wore it (I have it queued up to post sometime this week), and I usually do not like browns, but I LOVED this on! I remember wanting it because I heard a lot about it...then when I got it I was like "what was I thinking" then I finally put it on and fell in love!

I am not a big brown fan, but I have one other I like - MAC Rich, Dark, Delicious from their Fall 2009 collection. I actually have an old MAC pigment (from like, summer 2003?) that I cling to for dear life because I love it SO much, Cocoa Beach. I remember even back then thinking it would make an amazing nail polish. I am thinking after I play around with frankening a bit, I will make something with that in it. Le swoon.

  15. First of all, "le swoon." Love that.

And yeah, browns are hit and miss with me too. There needs to be something a bit special for me to naturally gravitate towards it; if I'm going to wear a dark neutral color in fall, it's most probably going to be a grey. But Ingrid is a real beauty. Plus I love the theme for this collection so I'm sure there's a marketing brainwashing thing going on as well.
