Color Club With Abandon

I can't tell how I feel about this color.

In theory, I should love this.  A dark brown base infused with gold glitter flecks seems a recipe for Amanda polish heaven.  But for some reason, this didn't translate so well from the idea in my head to my nail.  I hate when that happens.

I tend to really like Color Club polishes.  While I'm not thrilled with their brushes, their colors are always cool and on trend and you can typically find these from $3-$6 in many beauty supply stores (I picked this one up for $4 at Bed Bath and Beyond in Chelsea, NYC).  With Abandon, part of the Wild at Heart Collection from Fall 2009, seemed to be another CC win.

But as you can see, the gold doesn't really pop and the brown base is kinda blah.  From the hand shot, it almost looks like a creme.  Check it out.

Not the best macro shot, but you can see that in fact there are green and pink micro glitter infused in this base as well.  If only you could see it in normal, non blurry, non close up light.  Sigh.

I'll most probably wear this again and not thinking of swapping/gifting it soon, but I need to figure how to either lower my expectations or find a way to make this work.  The flash pictures make this polish look almost matte and may be the way to highlight what I initially thought made this polish special.  Just need to get a matte top coat...

Has anyone had better luck with With Abandon?

  1. I don't own it so I have no idea how it looks in person. With the flash I can see the gold sparkle. Looks great on you though.

  2. I'm a fan of Essie's Matte About You, though my friend likes Hard Candy's Matte-ly in Love :] & I felt like this about CG Midtown Magic.. didn't do anything for me :[

  3. I hate it when polishes don't live up to my expectations! I don't own this one, but what if you tried to layer it??  Maybe if you layer one coat over a dark brown the glass flacks will show up better??  I tend to layer a lot so that's what I try first!

  4. Yeah, you can only see that with flash. It's a nice color, but disappointing.

  6. With Abandon is a bit thick so I'm not sure how well this will layer. Interesting idea though, will definitely try it :)

  8. Oh wow, I just looked at swatches and these are total dupes. I'll have to add this to my Dupe Alerts page. Thanks, Katherine!
