Wet n Wild Fantasy Makers Purple Potion (Challenge Day 12: A Polish from a Brand You Hate)

The brand I hate the most would hands down have to be Maybelline.  As I previously ranted, I just think that they fail miserably in the formula (chips) and hardware (whacked out brushes) and I refuse to spend my money on them.  Instead, I bring you a brand I don't typically hate, but in this case, feel they copped out.

The blogosphere has been rampant about Wet n Wild Fantasy Makers.  I'll grant you that the bottles are ridiculously adorable and the price is dirt cheap ($1.99 by me), but none of the colors were particularly unique.  There were two blacks, a cheap looking orange, and a glow in the dark shade, but the only one that really made me pick up the bottle was Purple Potion.

While I'm not a fan of glitter, there's something about a dark base with colored glitter.  Just rocks my socks.  Here we have a super dark eggplant purple base with bright purple glitter.  In theory, lovely.  However...this formula was gloopy and thick and really hard to work on my nail.  My word of advice to anyone who is thinking of picking this up: you have to really really love the color and think it is the most unique think you've ever laid eyes on for this to be worth it.  Or just think the bottle is cute.

But I do actually like this color.  What do you guys think?  Is a gloopy formula worth the effort if the color is cool?

  1. I've heard so much about these as well, although I haven't personally laid eyes on them. Know what this polish reminds me of? Deborah Lippmann's Bad Romance, and while it may not be a dead-on duplicate, at $1.99, who's complaining?! Looks great on you!

  2. Interesting... I've seen so many postings about how Revlon Facets of Fuchsia is the Bad Romance dupe. But I can see how this might look like a purple dupe of the Lipmann. Nice catch!

  3. This is really pretty! I kept passing this up saying I didn't need another polish like this....I think I do! lol. Off to Rite Aid I go! ;)
